Lake Powell 2023
|
The weatherWe are not fans of trips to Powell in June. The water is a bit to cold for us pansy Southern Californians. And sometimes in June you can get these TERRIBLE heat waves.
This year it was actually quite cool. Mid 80's to low 90's during the day and upper 60's at night. But the water was barely in the mid 70's. It was nice to not have to run the AC all night. In August it is running all night long so we can sleep. But it was so mild this year we were able to turn off the AC around 12 midnight every night and sleep soundly for the rest of the night. We normally get a bit of wind a day here or a day there. Usually from a local thunderstorm. But this year it was windy for about 5 of the 7 days out on the lake. I've never seen it like this before. We are talking 20 to 30 mph all day with gusts up to 40 mph. Had to start my engines up a few times just to keep the boat on the beach. Rising WatersThis year was the year for Lake Powell to Rise. While we were there for our week the lake came up a good 4 feet. I had to move the houseboat up the beach twice a day. Once when I woke up and another time just before the sun set. A few days when the wind started to blow I also moved the houseboat up a bit. A half a foot rise can be a foot or so loss of beach.

Our ski boatThis year our beloved ski boat took a digger. It evidently hit something on our last trip that I was not aware of. When we sent it in to get the yearly maintenance our maintenance guy found the haul to be delaminating. I think during the big storm last year the boat must have hit a rock that I did not see. So we had to rent a tritoon form a local company in Page. It unfortunately barely went 30 miles per hour and the gas tank in it was only 25 gallons. So we really couldn't explore all that much this year.
Our CrewOur crew this year consisted of:
