Lake Powell 2008 - Rock Creek
Lake Elevation 3630
Sunrise at Lake Powell
Sunrise over Padre Bay
Once again the Dooley's and guests take the journey of a life time up to Lake Powell. And once again we drive up to Laketime Houseboats and are greeted with an extremely clean and well maintained Purple Moon. As is beginning to be routine, the Purple Moon was all spit shined and ready for us upon our arrival around 7:00pm. We boarded her and had all our autos unloaded
by 8:00pm and were ready to go out and raise hell in the small town of Page. Once again our first night was spent on the Purple Moon in the yard at Laketime. The next morning the Laketime crew were waking us up right at 6:30am and had us down on the lake by 7:00am.

nce in the water we start our annual pilgrimage down to the dam and over to Antelope Point past Warm Creek Bay and up, "oh wait a minute!!!!" The CRC is open this year!!! For the first time since we have been going to Powell the CRC is now open to all watercraft. So now all we have to to is cross Wahweap Bay go through the CRC to Warm Creek and then up. Wow that saved us a good 45 to 60 minutes of cruising and we also didn't have to worry about the Maytag Straits, and the gas, the precious gas we saved!!!
Well now since the CRC was open this year we arrived so early up to Rock Creak that all but a few bad sites to park our house boat were available. It is so early in the morning that no one has left for the day. So we cruised around a bit, look at Dungeon, Middle Rock Creek and here and there. But about an hour later we cruise up to Rock Creek again and now people are leaving, we find a perfect spot so we park the Purple Moon, tie her down and go off and PARTY!
As is always the fun never stops, water skiing, fishing (though it sucked again this year!) swimming, hiking, and heck a bit of drinking.
Talent Show
Bill Fisk Hula is one of the funniest things I have ever seen! If you know Bill you know this is out of his realm!
Oh and Stephanie planned a talent show for the last night, nobody wanted to do anything, till Bill came out in this fantastic hula outfit and did a great hula dance for all.
If you know Bill then you know this just can't be him! Yet, as his wife Tona says, "Brent has corrupted him!"

The day that Brent and Jenn drove up from home to meet us, our rental ski boat's prop went bad. When we called Laketime and informed them of our problem they came to the rescue, Laketime waited for Brent and Jenn to arrive at the Wahweap marina and drove them out to our site at Rock Creek then Laketime fixed our prop saving us a bunch of time and gas. Brent couldn't join us at the beginning of our trip for he was just graduating from Mt. Sac's Paramedic Program. When he arrived we through him a big party!!
And the days just kept happening, no big winds, no storms, heck the temperature was even perfect all week! The Purple Moon and Laketime once again provided the Dooley Family and friends with another PERFECT vacation.

One scary moment!
one day our neighbor about 200 yards away came running over the hill yelling, "Carbon Dioxide Poisoning, Carbon Dioxide Poisoning, can you help?" I knew right away that he meant Carbon Monoxide poisoning! I grabbed my first aid belt, I have been on the Mt Baldy Ski Patrol for over 25 years and always carry a first aid belt, and ran over to the other houseboat, while
running over I yelled for Steph to call the park service for help over the radio.
Evidently a young girl's jet ski died in the water some way away from their houseboat and they towed her back with another jet ski and the fumes from the towing jet ski had consumed her to the point that she passed out. I took her vitals and asked what happened, made her as comfortable as I could and waited for the park service to respond. I couldn't do anything else for CO poisoning and that made me think about carrying an O2 bottle to Powell from now on. I asked if they had called the park service for help and they said no, I asked why not and evidently the owner of the houseboat had traveled back to Wahweap for some supplies and left his guest on the boat with no knowledge on how to work the radio. I tried to turn it on as well and their electric panel was quite confusing.
I asked one of my kids to run back to the Purple Moon and confirm that we had the park service on route and luckily Steph did get a hold of the Park Service. It took the Park Service a good 30 minutes to come, by then the victim was conscious and had most of her color back. Luckily she came through just fine! But I'll tell you that was a scary time for about 5 or so minutes. If you houseboat does not have a CO alarm on it, go and spend the $20 or so bucks! It will save your life!!!!
